What to Expect on Our Penas Blancas River Safari Float!

  • Scenic river journey:
    Starting from La Fortuna town, we head to the tranquil Peñas Blancas River, just a 20-minute drive away.
  • Relaxing boat ride experience:
    Drift along calm currents aboard an inflatable raft, admiring the unique wildlife sightings with your paddle.
  • Abundant wildlife:
    Spot various animals, including sloths, howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys, crocodiles, birds, frogs, and Jesus Christ lizards.
  • Educational guided tour:
    Our naturalist guide will share insights about the surrounding flora and fauna as we leisurely paddle downstream.
  • Riverside snack break:
    After about an hour and a half, we'll reach a ranch for a refreshment stop. Enjoy natural snacks like fresh fruit, fried plantains, homemade tortillas, cheese, pure chocolate, and coffee.
  • Return journey:
    Continue the river journey for an additional 40 minutes before disembarking for the minibus ride back to your La Fortuna hotel.

I went to Costa Rica with my wife and 2 young children, 3 and 5 and thought it was a great trip to view the wild life. This trip did not disappoint. The guides were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The bus arrived on time and the trip came back on time. We were able to see a basilisk lizard, crocodile, bats, and lots of monkeys. we were surprised by the snacks at the end of the tour which inc luded grinding our on sugar cane. The kids felt safe and had fun. Joshua was our guide and pointed out many animals and described them well to us with lots of extra details. I highly recommend this trip.... (read more)

Wasn't expecting much. But boy we were very pleased at the end. After a brief safety session. We headed down to the river. Joe our guide was pleasant , accommodating and very knowledgeable. The hours flew by very quickly. We saw toucans, alligators. howling monkeys and were in awe of the broccoli tree. At the end we were treated to snacks and hot chocolate. Then taken back to hotel. Nice easy float with lots of wildlife

We enjoyed the afternoon cruise down the Penas Blancas, a scenic and slow moving river with lots of wildlife. We saw lots of Howler monkeys, crocodiles, bats, and a great variety of birds. The crew were very professional and we always felt safe. Our guide Albarone was very knowledgeable and had a great eye for picking out wildlife. The trip concluded with a visit to a small farm situated on the ri ver and hosted by a very nice couple that provided a few local snacks, and some great coffee or sugar cane drink. It was one of the only slower moving rafting adventures that did not require a very long drive from the hotels in the La Fortuna area. The shuttle picked us up on schedule (actually a little ahead of schedule and the drive to the river was about 40 minutes with some narration from our guide.... (read more)
